Cuba now welcomes around 4.5 million visitors each year and its thriving tourism industry is the country’s biggest source of revenue. New economic reforms have also seen the island nation emerge as increasingly self-sufficient.

The new Cuba is something of a public-private hybrid where production, property ownership, investment, and greater personal freedom, coexist with military-run state companies and the continued one-party rule.
